A massive welcome to Year 5.

Year 5 2016-17

Year 5 2016-17

Science in the sun!

Today, Year 5 made the most of the hot weather by taking our Science lesson outdoors.

In Science we have been learning about Forces in Action, today’s lesson was all about Air resistance.

So what better thing today than take the large parachute outside; enjoy the sun and learn some Science.

The children were able to discuss gravitational pull and air resistance.

We all had lots of fun learning about the pushes and pulls related to Air Resistance.image

World Book Day

Well done to everyone in Year 5 celebrating World Book Day 2016

Thank You!

I would just like to say thank you all for another amazing half-term.

In Year 5 we have been learning a great deal. We have be looking at Properties and Changes of Materials in Science, Stories from another culture and poetry in English and Fractions, Decimals and Percentages in Maths.

All the children have worked very hard and have enjoyed reading ‘Oranges in No Man’s Land’, which inspired some great story writing.

I look forward to your continued support after half-term, when the learning and fun will continue!

Welcome to Spring Term!

In Year 5 we are as busy as ever. We have already learnt about 3D pop artist Fazzino and are enjoying our new Science topic, Properties and Changes of Materials where we have been mixing kitchen substances to make solutions.

In English we are currently reading Oranges in No Mans Land, which the children are thoroughly enjoying. We have learnt so much about the Civil war in Beirut.

Our Local Area

This half term we’ve been looking at our local area in many different ways. We started with the human features of Wavertree. We got absolutely soaked on our field trip but still managed to investigate land use around our school! We learned about different types of residential and commercial buildings that we have here as well as the many public spaces. We explored the different types of services available here and discussed why people might come to Wavertree to live or to visit. Next we explored the physical features of our area by considering the importance of the River Mersey, comparing the climate in Liverpool with the rest of the U.K.  and looking at the nearest upland areas to where we live. We enjoyed using maps and data in our work and found out far more about Wavertree than we ever imagined!

Parish Mass

Thank you to parents and parishioners for attending our mass this morning.

Also, thank you to Father Grant and the children for a wonderful service.

Cinema Visit

Well done to all the Year 5 and 6 children who visited the Odeon Cinema in Liverpool City Centre.

The children where all extremely well behaved and enjoyed their visit.

Thank you to the parent helpers, without you we couldn’t make these visits possible.
